Unaccompanied Minors
Children Travelling Alone
We will ensure your child is taken care of while he or she is flying on our Unaccompanied Minor Service (UMNR).
- We will ensure your child is taken through security, to the gate and boarded on the aircraft.
- The child will be introduced to the flight attendant and helped with any baggage.
- At the destination the child will be released to the appropriate person (as authorized in writing by a parent/guardian).
Who Can Fly as an Unaccompanied Minor?
- You can book your child as an unaccompanied minor if they’re between 5 to 15 years of age.
- If your child is under 5 years, then unfortunately they’re too young to travel as an unaccompanied minor.
- If they’re over 15, then they’ll have to travel as an adult.
Mandatory for Children Between Ages 5-11
It's mandatory for children aged 5 to 11 years to travel as an unaccompanied minor if they're travelling alone or without an adult (16 years or over).
Optional for Children Between Ages 12-15
It's optional for children aged 12 to 15 years travelling alone to use our Unaccompanied Minor Service. If you choose not to book them on this service, they will travel independently. We do advise that they bring documentation stating who will pick them up at the destination airport, the accommodation for their stay and contact information for parents/legal guardian.
Other Conditions
- If it looks like there's the possibility of their flight landing at another airport due to bad weather, or other extraordinary circumstances, we will not allow unaccompanied minors to travel on the flight.
- Children flying alone cannot travel with pets (either in the cabin or the cargo hold).
- If the child has a medical condition that may require medication during the flight, they must have the ability to administer this themselves. Our cabin crew cannot administer medication or store the medication in a cool place.
Booking
You need to fill in our UMNR form and send to us at support@nyx.ee to make a booking for an unaccompanied minor.
There's a small charge, 20 euros per child - each way, to use our Unaccompanied Minor Service if the child is travelling on a regular ticket, to cover the details of making sure your child is well looked after throughout their entire trip.
Preparing for Travel
We have strict rules in place to ensure the safety of your child during each part of their journey.
The parent/legal guardian must complete a form containing the child's personal information, travel route and the name of the person who will leave the child at departure and be meeting the child upon arrival.
Download our unaccompanied minor form below and present this to our airport representatives when the child is checking in. To avoid delays, make sure you complete the entire form and bring all three copies to check-in at the airport.
At the Airport
- Make sure your child has the essential belongings in the cabin baggage.
- The parent/legal guardian, or an authorized adult, bring the child to check-in counter at least 1 hour before the departure. Bring the three signed unaccompanied minor forms with you.
- The parent/legal guardian should help the child check-in and drop off any baggage.
- The parent/legal guardian must show valid ID at check-in and stay at the airport until the child's flight has taken off.
- Our assistance staff will pick up the child after check-in and stay with him or her through security screening and to the gate.
